Had good news when I weighed in in the morning that I had passed my first of three milestones in my weight loss plan. I officially passed from overweight too fat to climb to too heavy to climb well. Celebrated the event by starting out today's ride up a steep climb. Temperature started out in the fifties and eventually climbed at one point to seventy. The temperature kept shifting throughout the day following the cloud cover. It was a mix of bright warm sunshine versus frequent clouds and a cold north wind. Headed into the stiff cold wind for twenty-six miles and two good climbs. Decided to push the first hour of the sixty-mile ride then go back to a slower pace to burn some more fat. Tried to get the average up fifteen in the first hour climbing over the ridge to Dundee but spent too much time on the first seven hundred feet of climbing. The wind didn't help either. Did the second climb up 14A from Dudee to Penn Yan without much stress as it is a fairly constant grade highway climb. Wasn't able to develop much momentum on the five-mile descent into Penn Yan due again to the wind. Finally got to turn out of the wind and that pretty much ended the working part of the ride. Went back over the ridge up 54 to Dresden that is another highway climb that is usually fairly easy and was made even better by a good tailwind. Finally got the average up to fifteen on the descent and pretty much held it on the third climb going south through Amish country out of Dresden. Sun became more plentiful on the back nine and was able to get the speed up into the mid=twenties for most of the ride home. Last part of the ride was extremely pleasant and even saw two riders climbing out of Watkins as I descended.
